Cops strip woman, beat her up with belts at police station in Gurugram

Gurugram: A 30-year-old woman from Assam was allegedly stripped naked and thrashed at a police station in Gurugram on Tuesday. After the incident took place, the Gurugram police commissioner ordered a departmental inquiry into the case. The woman had been taken into custody after her employers accused her of theft.
Apart from ordering a departmental inquiry, the police commissioner sent the four accused cops to the police lines. Station House Officer (SHO) of DLF Phase 1 was also among one of the accused.
The woman worked as a domestic help at a house in DLF Phase 1 area of Gurugram. Her employers accused her of theft and approached the police. The woman was taken into custody on Tuesday. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Madhubala was appointed as the investigating officer of the case.
The woman’s husband said, “When she reached the police station, she was taken to a room, stripped and beaten up brutally with belts and batons. They forced her to confess to a crime that she did not commit.” It was alleged that the woman had been beaten up on her private parts.
On Wednesday, a group of people from the north-east staged a protest outside Gurugram Police Commissioner, Mohammad Akil’s house. It was after the protests that Akil ordered a departmental inquiry against the cops involved in the incident.
Subhash Bokan, Public Relations Officers (PRO), Gurugram Police said, “We received a complaint against the police personnel of DLF Phase 1 and accordingly, sent them to the lines. The accused officers are SHO Sawit Kumar, ASI Madhubala, HC Anil Kumar and woman constable Kavita.”
